ARTISTS STATEMENT: Quite simply, I paint on silk with dyes. And I mix colors. Creating all my colors from red, yellow and blue dyes is the challenge that feeds my soul! I’m not sure what I do is always a cognitive process but often intuitive and emotional. I do know, it comes from deep within me and fulfills me like nothing I have ever done before or since.
The viewer or patron will see my work is about beauty, luxury and individuality – whether it is wearable art or to beautify one’s space. My work fulfills a desire for beauty yet also protects the body ~ all while indulging the wearer in the ultimate in tactile experiences. My interior pieces fulfill the need to beautify, personalize and individualize one’s living space.
My most recent work is a series called “Bodacious Blooms” – drawing the viewer into an intimate, much larger than life interaction with common flowers we see in the Upper Midwest rather than the exotic, tropical flowers one usually associates with silk painting. While these works are pictorial and representational, my wearable art is abstract. It is about how colors interact with each other, how they can change and move just by their juxtaposition. One patron has called me the master of the visual dance of color! (The ultimate compliment!) Many times when one thinks of an artist or the arts, the first thing that comes to mind is 2 dimensional art forms such as paintings or portraits. Through my work, I hope to affect an understanding of, and an appreciation for non-traditional art forms – specifically fiber arts. Silk is the ultimate in luxury and a wonderful sensory experience. My "Silks With Attitude!" allow me to share this with you. My work is now in collections on five continents. I hope you enjoy living with my "Silks With Attitude!" as much as I enjoy creating them.
